Examination Timeline and Rules

Written and Oral Examination – 31 June & 1 July 2026

1. Examination Timeline

Application Period

Applications must be submitted through the official EBEC-FPRS website.

Deadline for applications: 31 March 2026.

Final List of Accepted Candidates

EBEC-FPRS will publish the final list of candidates on:

30 April 2026.

Payment of Examination Fees

Deadline for fee payment: 31 May 2026, according to the instructions on the EBEC-FPRS website.

Failure to complete payment by this date results in automatic exclusion from the examination.

2. Examination Preparation Requirements

Mandatory Mock Test

All candidates must complete the official EBEC-FPRS mock test, held one week before the examination.

The mock test is designed to confirm platform functionality, exam format familiarity, and system compatibility.

Computer Requirements

The same computer/device used for the mock test must be used for the actual written exam.

Only the EBEC-FPRS examination application may remain open; any other window or application open during the exam results in immediate disqualification.

3. Eligibility

Fellowship Track Eligibility

The Fellowship Track is open to candidates who have completed a recognised, structured, advanced training programme in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

To qualify under this pathway, the candidate must

have completed a recognised Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship, including:
- an EAFPS-recognised Fellowship,
- an IFFPSS-affiliated Fellowship, or
- another Fellowship programme formally recognised by EBEC-FPRS.
provide official documentation of Fellowship completion, including:
- fellowship certificate,
- dates of training,
- curriculum description signed by the Fellowship Director.
be in good professional standing with their national medical authority, with no restrictions on practice.
fulfil all general EBEC-FPRS administrative, ethical, and GDPR requirements.

Regular Track Eligibility

The Regular Track is intended for experienced surgeons without a recognised fellowship but with substantial training and clinical activity in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

To qualify under this pathway, the candidate must:

Hold a recognised specialist qualification in one of the following:
- Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, MD
- Plastic Surgery, MD
- Maxillofacial Surgery, MD
Demonstrate significant practical experience in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by submitting a detailed surgical report of:
- 100 consecutive Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery cases
- personally performed by the candidate
- within the last 2 years
Each case must include:
- date of surgery
- patient age and gender
- procedure performed
- indication and surgical approach
The case log must follow the official EBEC-FPRS Case Report Format and be submitted electronically.
Be in good professional standing, meaning:
- fully licensed,
- specialist registration active,
- no disciplinary restrictions or ongoing investigations.
Comply with all EBEC-FPRS administrative, ethical, GDPR, and examination requirements.

General Requirements (Applicable to Both Tracks)

All candidates, regardless of track, must:

Provide valid documentation of medical licensure and specialist registration.
Submit all required documents in English.
Agree to EBEC-FPRS confidentiality, intellectual property, and examination integrity policies.
Follow all application deadlines and pay the examination fee by the specified date.
Participate in the mandatory EBEC-FPRS mock test, using the same computer/device intended for the written exam.
Declare that all submitted information is accurate and authentic.

4. Written Examination Rules

Format

The written exam is divided into two parts, both delivered via the EBEC-FPRS digital platform:

Part 1:
- 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Duration: 2 hours
Part 2:
- 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Duration: 2 hours

Passing Standard

Candidates must achieve a score equal to or above the passing score determined by the Modified Angoff Method.

The Angoff threshold is set by a panel of EBEC-FPRS experts to represent the performance of a minimally competent candidate.

Security and Conduct

It is strictly prohibited to copy, photograph, record, memorise, or remove any questions.

Any attempt to steal or reproduce examination content results in permanent exclusion from future EBEC-FPRS exams.

The digital platform monitors activity; opening external webpages or software triggers immediate termination and disqualification.

5. Oral Examination Rules

Structure

The oral examination consists of 12 clinical scenarios, divided into 3 modules, each containing 4 scenarios:

Module 1 – Rhinoplasty and Nasal Surgery
Module 2 – Ageing Face and Oculoplastics
Module 3 – Reconstructive Surgery, Trauma, and Varia

Timing

Each scenario contains 5–7 structured questions.

Duration per scenario: 6 minutes.

Each module lasts:

24 minutes of examination (4 scenarios × 6 minutes)
+ 6 minutes transition time
Total: 30 minutes per module

Pre-Examination Case Review

Before each module, candidates receive the 4 clinical cases and have 20 minutes in an isolated room to review and familiarise themselves with the scenarios.

Notes may not be removed from the preparation room.

Passing Requirements

The candidate must pass all three modules.

Failing one module results in failure of the entire oral examination.

Failing either the written or oral examination requires repeating the entire EBEC-FPRS examination in a future cycle (if eligibility is maintained).

6. General Examination Rules

The following rules apply to all EBEC-FPRS examinations, written and oral:

Identification

Candidates must present valid, government-issued identification at all stages.

Professional Conduct

Professional behaviour is expected throughout the examination process.

Aggressive, inappropriate, or disruptive conduct may result in removal from the exam.

Confidentiality

Examination content is confidential intellectual property of EBEC-FPRS.

Discussing, reproducing, or distributing any exam material is strictly forbidden.

Prohibited Items

Electronic devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets, cameras)

Books, notes, printed materials

Communication devices of any sort

Integrity and Ethics

Any attempt at cheating, external assistance, or rule violation results in:

Immediate disqualification

Invalidation of exam results

Permanent notification to EBEC-FPRS

Possible prohibition from future exams

Technical or Operational Issues

Technical problems must be immediately reported during the written exam.

Extensions are granted only at EBEC-FPRS discretion.

Appeals

Appeals may address administrative or procedural irregularities only.

Appeals regarding examiner judgment or score reduction are not accepted unless there is evidence of procedural error.

Data Protection

Candidate information is handled under GDPR standards.

7. Requirements to Become an EBEC-FPRS Diplomate (Board-Certified Surgeon)

“Diplomate – EBEC-FPRS Board Certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”

Passing the examination does not automatically grant Diplomate / Board-Certified status.

Certification requires exam success + acceptance of the candidate’s surgical case log, following the rules below:

Regular Track – Diplomate Requirements

The 100 consecutive FPRS cases must be submitted and approved BEFORE sitting the EBEC-FPRS examination.

If the candidate passes both the written and oral exam and the 100-case submission has been approved, the candidate is awarded the title of Diplomate.

Fellowship Track – Diplomate Requirements

Candidates complete the examination first.

After passing the exam, they must submit 100 consecutive FPRS cases performed within the following 2 years.

Only after the 100-case submission is reviewed and approved does the candidate earn Diplomate status.

Important Notes

The 100-case submission is mandatory for both tracks.

Diplomate status is only granted once both conditions are fulfilled:

Passing the Written + Oral Exam
Approval of the 100-case case log

If the candidate fails to submit acceptable cases within the required timeframe, Diplomate status is withheld.
